The NSC (Natural Speech Communication Ltd.), leader in speech recognition technology, announced the launch of Snipp.TV, a interactive search engine designed for search within online multimedia files. This is attempting to address the long-standing problem of searching for non-textual information using speech analysis technology to scour through content.

Television distributors are now growing more keen to the idea of opening up the TV vaults and streaming
old TV series online. With the presence of sites such as Hulu, Joost and Veoh the audience and ad dollars to be made are becoming much more formidable and opening the eyes of certain TV executives. “We have all this library content, and we’ve been surprised at how much interest there is in it,” Jeff Zucker, the CEO of NBC Universal, said recently. “Frankly, if there is one person interested it — and there are streaming costs so you have to make sure you’re covering that — we’ve found it’s a new opportunity for our content.”

Study of TV viewing on the web…

Here is another study conducted by the Convergence Consulting Group that further proves the massive potential of TV online. It claims that 9% of all viewing of broadcast and cable TV shows happened on the web all last year. The ad spending did not follow suit, but you have got to believe this is going to change soon. They project that viewer ship will rise to 23% by the year 2010.

A Google study is now saying that 30 second ad spots embedded into Youtube videos are as effective as 30 second ad spots on television. This is surprising considering that users have the ability to disable them, or turn away to another page at will.
